Kidney beans, given the name due to the resemblance of the human kidney, are high in protein and fibre and provide an abundance of nutrients to help keep the gut healthy. Native to Central America & Mexico and delicious in vegetable chilli con carne or as a hearty topping on a sweet jacket potato.

Red kidney beans contain relatively high amounts of phytohemagglutinin, and thus are more toxic than most other bean varieties. Red kidney beans must be soaked for 8 hours or overnight and boiled for at least 10 minutes, before simmering for 60 minutes.


Cooking Instructions:

Soak for 8 hours or overnight

Rinse, add to boiling water for 10 minutes

Simmer for 60 minutes or until tender
